At age 21 Gary Rideout Jr's competitive hockey career ended ... or so he had thought. The following season he joined a men's recreational hockey league team with his father. He was the youngest player in the league while his dad, Gary Rideout Sr. was the oldest. One on-ice scuffle would lead to a rivalry that would go beyond the ice and beyond anything Gary Jr. had ever encountered.

According to Gary Rideout Jr, if Perkey was a well-adjusted, middle-aged Canadian man, he would have added, “Play hockey like there are scouts in the crowd and if someone insults you, swing your stick at their fuckin' head. Also he might have dropped the singing thing cuz if people are listening and think you're awful, stop singing.“
