Beer League w/Gary Rideout Jr.

Date: July 09, 2010
Time: 9:00 PM

Hockey has been described as a passion that unites us all, but there is nothing to be more united or passionate than family. Every hockey player has a story about the good ol' days, this is one of them.

At age 21 Gary Rideout Jr's competitive hockey career ended ... or so he had thought. The following season he joined a men's recreational hockey league team with his father. He was the youngest player in the league while his dad, Gary Rideout Sr. was the oldest. One on-ice scuffle would lead to a rivalry that would go beyond the ice and beyond anything Gary Jr. had ever encountered.

William Perkey once said, "Dance like no one is watching, love like you'll never be hurt, sing like no one is listening and live like it's heaven on earth." According to Gary Rideout Jr, if Perkey was a well-adjusted, middle-aged Canadian man, he would have added, “Play hockey like there are scouts in the crowd and if someone insults you, swing your stick at their fuckin' head. Also he might have dropped the singing thing cuz if people are listening and think you're awful, stop singing.“

Created by Gary Rideout Jr and Directed by Mark Andrada, Beer League is a hard-hitting look at how one young man stickhandles his way through a rivalry, a relationship, a career change and a heart attack. Beer League shows us that Blood is Thicker then Frozen Water.

Gary Rideout Jr. is a Canadian Comedy Award winning writer and performer for the critically acclaimed sketch troupe “The Sketchersons.”
